“I had a session with the ELT yesterday about the Discovery Map. They all wanted to say thank you very much for producing such a great visual of our vision and helping us land where we have with it – they can’t wait to share it with the organisation.”

Our client’s challenge
The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) is the UK’s only chartered professional body dedicated to educating, developing and regulating actuaries based both in the UK and internationally. The IFoA regulates and represents over 30,000 members worldwide, overseeing their actuarial education at all stages of qualification and development throughout their careers. They set examinations, continuing professional development, professional codes and disciplinary standards for their members.
A number of new strategies were being put into place which were resulting in a lot of change at the IFoA. It was a bold approach that was essentially a ‘big reset’ for the organisation and a focus on what comes next. Although the changes were being welcomed, there was a difficulty in simply communicating what this change will look like going forward. The goal was to remove complexity as much as possible by communicating in new and innovative ways.
Our solution and results
The Big Picture People, in partnership with LeoDo, helped The IFoA to create a bespoke Discovery Map® which communicated the reasons for the change, what would be involved and how employees could contribute.
The IFoA had the following objectives:
- Remove the complexity which currently exists in terms of communicating what comes next
- Identify where the IFoA is going
- Identify what success looks like
- Identify the ‘pot of gold’ at the end of the ‘rainbow’
The Big Picture People worked with The IFoA to define these objectives. Following this, The Big Picture People and Leodo ran a virtual workshop with the leadership team at the IFoA. The facilitated workshop enabled The Big Picture People to curate and record the content of the Discovery Map®. After the workshop, The IFoA provided feedback on the outputs which were integrated into updates. Once the final Discovery Map® was signed off, a high resolution version was sent to the client to use in their communications processes.
